# FAQ

> Answers to common questions about RivrDEX — fees, wallets, liquidity, and more.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Do I need to pay gas fees on RivrDEX?">
    Almost none. RivrDEX runs on Vara Network, where the network fee is a tiny amount of VARA — a fraction of a cent, not an EVM-style gas bill. In practice you pay the **0.35% swap fee** on each trade, and liquidity providers earn 0.3% of it. Your **first swap is even better**: a [voucher](/docs/getting-started/voucher-guide) covers its network fee entirely, so it works with a zero VARA balance.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What tokens can I trade on RivrDEX?">
    Any fungible token deployed on Vara Network. If a trading pair already exists, you can swap immediately. If one doesn't exist yet, you can create it yourself by depositing both tokens and setting the initial price. RivrDEX is fully permissionless — there is no token allowlist.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Which wallets are supported?">
    RivrDEX supports the following Vara-compatible wallets:

    * **SubWallet** (recommended)
    * **Talisman**
    * **Nova Wallet**
    * **Polkadot.js extension**

    Install the extension for your preferred wallet, create or import an account, and connect it to the app at [app.rivrdex.io](https://app.rivrdex.io).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Is RivrDEX custodial?">
    No. RivrDEX is fully non-custodial. You retain control of your private keys and assets at all times. When you add liquidity, the tokens are held in on-chain pool contracts — but no central party can access or move your funds. Only you can withdraw your position by redeeming your LP tokens.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What is impermanent loss?">
    Impermanent loss occurs when the price of tokens in a pool changes relative to when you deposited them. Because the AMM rebalances your position to maintain the constant product formula, you may end up holding more of the token that fell in price and less of the one that rose.

    The difference between the value of your pool position and the value of simply holding both tokens outside the pool is called impermanent loss. It is "impermanent" because if prices return to their original ratio, the loss disappears entirely. Trading fees earned while you are in the pool partially offset this risk.

    <Note>
      Impermanent loss is most significant in volatile or highly directional markets. Consider the risk before providing liquidity to pairs with large price swings.
    </Note>
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How are liquidity provider fees paid out?">
    Fees are not distributed immediately. Instead, they accumulate inside the pool over time, gradually increasing the value of each LP token. When you remove liquidity and burn your LP tokens, you receive your proportional share of the pool — your original principal plus all fees earned while you were in the pool.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I create my own trading pair?">
    Yes. RivrDEX is permissionless — anyone can create a new pair by depositing both tokens into a new pool contract. You set the initial price by choosing the ratio of tokens you deposit. Once created, the pair is immediately available for other users to trade and provide liquidity to.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Is RivrDEX open-source?">
    Yes. All RivrDEX smart contracts are public and auditable. You can review the on-chain code directly on GitHub. Open-source development means anyone can verify how the protocol works and that there are no hidden mechanisms. See the [Links](/docs/resources/links) page for the repository.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What network is RivrDEX built on?">
    RivrDEX is deployed on [Vara Network](https://vara.network) — a standalone layer-1 blockchain built on the Gear Protocol. Vara's actor-based messaging model enables near-gasless transactions and high-throughput on-chain execution, making it well-suited for a real-time DEX.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What is the current status of RivrDEX?">
    RivrDEX is **live on Vara Network mainnet**. You trade with real assets — VARA and tokens bridged from Ethereum. Follow [rivrdex.io](https://rivrdex.io), [X](https://x.com/Rivr_DEX), and [Discord](https://discord.gg/rivrdex) for announcements and new features.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I get VARA and other tokens?">
    Two ways: **buy VARA** on an exchange — [Coinbase](https://www.coinbase.com/price/vara-network), [Gate.io](https://www.gate.io/trade/VARA_USDT), or [Crypto.com](https://crypto.com/price/vara-network) — and withdraw it on the native Vara Network, or **bridge USDT** from Ethereum with the [Vara Network Bridge](https://bridge.vara.network) (\~20 minutes with Fast speed). The bridge also carries ETH, BTC, and USDC, but the DEX currently trades only against **wUSDT** — bridge USDT unless you specifically need another asset on Vara. See [Get tokens](/docs/getting-started/get-tokens) for the step-by-step walkthrough, and [vara.network/get-vara](https://vara.network/get-vara) for the current exchange list.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do I need VARA before my first swap?">
    No. Your **first swap is covered by a voucher** — RivrDEX pays the network fee for it, even
    if your VARA balance is zero. Typical flow: bridge USDT → wUSDT, then make your first swap
    **wUSDT → VARA**. After that you hold VARA, which covers gas for all future transactions.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My swap says completed but I don't see the tokens. Where are they?">
    Your balance is most likely sitting as **wVARA** (wrapped VARA). Check the
    [Swap page](https://app.rivrdex.io/trade) — if you hold wVARA, a
    **"You have … wVARA"** banner appears at the top; click **Receive VARA** to
    convert it on the spot. You can also convert from the bridge's
    [My Tokens tab](https://bridge.vara.network/my-tokens?network=mainnet).
    Also refresh the page or reconnect your wallet: balances sometimes display
    stale numbers. In every reported case so far, the funds were safe on-chain.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What is RivrDEX Rewards?">
    A loyalty program where trading earns you points. Points build XP and levels, unlock loyalty multipliers up to +25%, and can be spent in the rewards shop on USDT coupons, hardware wallets, and an exclusive Discord role. Your wallet is the account — join at [rivrdex.io/rewards](https://rivrdex.io/rewards). See the [Rewards overview](/docs/rewards/overview) for details.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Are reward points a token? Can I transfer them?">
    No. Points are campaign points tracked by the rewards program — they are not a cryptocurrency, are not transferable, and exist only to be redeemed in the [rewards shop](/docs/rewards/shop). Points you spend are deducted from your balance, but your lifetime XP and level never go down.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why didn't my swap earn points?">
    The usual reasons, in order of likelihood:

    * **Your wallet wasn't verified yet** — only swaps made after you verify at [rivrdex.io/rewards](https://rivrdex.io/rewards) count.
    * **The day hasn't closed** — trading points are credited shortly after 00:00 UTC. Until then they show in the live "Earning today" counter.
    * **You hit the daily cap** — trading points max out at 150 per day (before your loyalty multiplier).

    See [Earning points](/docs/rewards/earning-points) for the full rules.
